50 THINGS WE CAN DO TO SAVE OUR PLANET
GUARDING OUR BURIED TREASURES
- Recycle glass
- Drink purified tap water
- Recycle soda cans
- Use the precycling test: before buying something, see if its package can be recycled.
- Give away what you don't use anymore to people who need it.
- Save plastic bags and use them again. Use cloth bags.
- Find a place near your home to take recyclable things.
- Take a no-garbage lunch to school
- Make new dirt: make a pile of leaves and grass clippings in a corner of your yard. In a while, the pile will turn to soil.
SAVE WATER
- Be a water-leak detective
- Turn off the water while you brush your teeth
- Don't throw any kind of litter on the beach
- Take showers instead of baths
- Don't dump harmful liquids onto the ground on purpose.
- Get your family to put in a rain barrel that catches water from your roof.
- Water only early in the morning or in the evening, when the chances of the water drying up in the heat are the lowest.
- If you live near a river or a lake: patrol the stream bank and pick up all the trash you can find.
- Protect your wetlands
SAVE ANIMALS
- Protect birds: Feed some birds at home
- Design and plant a backyard garden (or window box) that will attract animals
- Don’t be bugged: next time you see a bug on the sidewalk, help it out!
- Find out about an endangered species living in your country and protect it (WWF, GREENPEACE)
- Save the whales
- Support a zoo or aquarium
- Throw garbage in trash cans, not on the ground
- Build a bird house
- Save animals’ natural habitats
KEEPING THE EARTH GREEN
-Don’t use plastic bags, use paper bags or cloth bags and reuse them!
-Plant a Tree
- Grow some greenery at home: Salad greens, flowers and herbs, for instance.
- Be a paper saver
- Help protect the rainforest
- Find out what foods are grown in your area during the year and consume those
- Try some organic food
USING ENERGY WISELY
-Get the most out of your batteries: don’t waste energy!!!
- Lights out!!!: Turn off lights when you are not using them
- On cold days, keep the heat as low as you comfortably can
-Save hot water
- If it’s not far, don’t take the car
- Stop the great escape: pull down the window shades at night and close the curtains when it’s cold
- Don’t open your refrigerator unless you have to.
- Put a cover on your pot when you’re boiling water
- Unplug things you are not using (although electronics are off they still use energy if they are pluged)
- Use sun power
STREADING THE WORD
-Get your family involved
- Write a letter to your local paper
- For school: buy recycled paper, and products made of recycled materials
- Take a field trip
- Get involved
- Dream a better world!!!
HASTA LA PRÓXIMA!!!
Miss Ariana.
